Countdown
It’s almost ‘go-time’ for the 66th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, one of the toughest races on the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship calendar.
On March 17th, we’re forgoing the typical St. Patrick’s day beer-crawls and parades to watch the race live on FS1 and FS2. However, to keep in the spirit of St Patty’s Day, we’ll probably add in some green beer or green snacks.
Racing The Way It Used To Be
In the week leading up to race day, we plan on watching a few classic films to set the race-week mood. First on the list is a short video by Porsche on Hurley Haywood’s reunion with his 1973 Sebring winning Carrera RS after 40 years. Second is a 1972 film, The Speed Merchants, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the early days of racing at Daytona, Sebring, the Targa Florio, the Nurburgring and Watkins Glen. Last but not least, Steve McQueen’s classic Le Mans.
Racing The Way It Is Now
We definitely have a soft spot for the classics but Porsche’s 911 RSR certainly doesn’t lack in excitement.
Seriously, just listen to this power…
We were happy to see an example of the 911 RSR, No. 911, during a recent trip to The Porsche Experience in Atlanta where it sat tucked away in the parking garage. Our phones struggled a little with the photos but getting to see this fantastic car from all angles without barriers or other people around was a rare opportunity.
Looking forward to watching the 911 RSR and the Porsche team work their magic next weekend at Sebring.
Go Team!
